Courting the Abyss (EP)

Dave Aftandilian Feels like a harrowing yet uplifting journey into the depths of one’s own soul. Shadows roar and rage on every side, screaming their helpless frustration. But there is a path to be followed through the maelstrom of emotions and across the abyss, narrow and rickety and swaying. Walking it takes focus, determination, faith, and a wide open heart.

Its a 1 track ep but a loooong track. I love it because the band haven't filled it out with ambient noise. It's doom all the way until you get to the blackened grind bit at the end.

about

About this album:
StoneDulu Productions is thrilled to announce the return of progressive doom metal band Dionysian with a brand new EP release entitled 'Courting the Abyss'. This marks the band's latest work following their debut full-length release 'Representations of the Id' in 2019. This time around, the band's latest release consists of a single 26 minute epic voyage that aims to transport the listener across a multitude of psychological and emotional depths that address topics of isolation, emptiness and transience of our existence. The single also portrays an evolution in the band's musical style by crossing genre boundaries with influences of grindcore, black metal, stoner rock and ambient explorations blended into their core doom metal sound.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the band initially disbanded following the return of founding member Chris back to his hometown in Germany. After a significant period of inactivity, Chris and Trishay re-connected and proceeded to work remotely across Germany and Malaysia on material that would result in this latest EP. This time around, the band decided to work with Lucas Grünke from Blackhole Music & Productions based in DuisBurg, Germany. Lucas ended up playing an integral role in serving as main producer for the album and overseeing all technical aspects of drum production, engineering and finalization of the finished record.
